Xenophobia kills the human race.

I’m so surprised by people’s reactions when I tell them that I’m going abroad by myself….

“people are dangerous!”
“stay away from strangers!”
“don’t talk to anyone that looks fishy!”
“BE CAREFUL!!!!!”

Seriously? This whole attitude of being afraid of the unknown irks/annoys/baffles me. Most people that I talk to are shocked that I’m
a) doing this alone and
b) not getting hotel rooms. (why do i need a hotel??? I’m unemployed! I can’t afford that!!! THERE ARE COUCHES TO SLEEP ON!)

When I told them I was going to try to couch-surf (which may or may not be possible because, apparently, EVERYONE takes the month of august/september off for vacation…sigh….) their jaw dropped and they FREAKED OUT and began telling me about terrible horror movies (Hostel, Taken, Saw, Etcetcetc.)

seriously???? THIS is what you are afraid of????

I’m afraid of dying unhappy. I’m afraid that I’m never going to find the answers i’ve been searching for. I’m afraid of the unknown and not being prepared for it. I’m afraid of being alone. (ironic, isn’t it?)

On my worst days, I worry about Zoey and what will happen to her when I’m gone….. THIS is what I’m afraid of… Not people–and certainly not strangers, strictly because they are “strangers”. heh.

I have decided that the world lives in fear— especially our society/country–and I’m going to let them. But I’m not going to be a part of it anymore. Screw this.

My adventure starts in 2 days.

Hey this post sounds like what I kept hearing when I told everyone I wanted to couch surf in Japan. WTH! People are always afraid of anything different.

I never met a stranger who wouldn’t scratch my belly when I rolled over in front of them. I miss u.
